Sasha's 5th Grade paper on the Brooklyn Bridge. Due tomorrow. TOMORROW! She hasn't even started it. [Brief pause, while we all identify with her dilemma.]
Anyway, she needs a pen. A pen. A pen. Where are all the pens? WHERE'S A PEN?! And please forgive her, everyone, 'cause she's yelling. And she's not usually a yeller. Really.
So who's Sasha? Probably a lot like you. Quick, observant, funny, open, angry, frustrated, scared, curious. She's a latchkey apartment kid, wise to city living. Mom's a single parent. Dad's out of touch. And her pen crisis? Turns out to be a good thing, a great thing. For in one afternoon, Sasha finds community, new friendships and more confidence in herself. All close to home.
