Two countries. Two cultures. Two languages.
Too much for one young girl to take on? Esperanza might have thought so, but put to the test, she proves to be stronger and more resourceful than she would ever dream.
It is the 1930s in Mexico. Esperanza, born to enormous wealth and privilege, has little to worry about, other than someone taking her new doll that has real hair and wears gloves. But when her rancher father is suddenly killed by thieves, their land goes to her maliciously greedy uncle, who demands that her mother marry him – or else. So Esperanza and her mother must flee. When Esperanza finds herself across the border in a migrant labor camp, she finally discovers what she's truly made of. And what she can't live without – hope.
