Musical Jam camps bring stories to life through musical theatre. Students will devise a musical with original songs, choreography, and characters.

Actor’s Lab: Musical Theatre from Dear Evan Hansen & Acting (Grades 9 – 12)

Challenge yourself with two classes in one week! Spend half the day in Acting, pursuing objectives, overcoming obstacles, utilizing tactics, and creating dynamic characters. In Musical Theatre, strengthen vocal technique as you learn how to identify and sing vocal patterns, phrases, and themes in songs from Tony Award®-winning Dear Evan Hansen. Content Advisory: themes include suicide, mental illness, bullying, and deception.

Showtime: Shakespearean Death Scenes (Grades 7-12)

Poisoned daggers, venomous snakes, wine barrel drownings, and more—nobody does pain and death quite like William Shakespeare! Exploring scenes ranging from the tragic downfalls of heroes, to the slapstick pratfalls of clowns, delve into the best of the Bard’s verbal sparring and physical violence.

In 1890’s England, a Cambridge education is nearly impossible to achieve…especially if you’re a woman and are not allowed to earn a degree. Using scenes from this contemporary feminist play, develop acting technique and explore themes of sacrifice, the value of education, heartache, and above all, how to fight for what you deserve.

Actor’s Lab: Acting Master Class (Grades 9 – 12)

Sharpen and refine your acting technique and performance skills in this master class designed to challenge intermediate and experienced actors. There is no final sharing; removing the pressure of an audience allows the faculty to focus on each student’s development and our students to hone their skills for use in future performances. Previous non-performance acting training recommended.

Performance Opportunity – Senior Intensive: Carrie (Grades 9 – 12)

When high school outcast Carrie White is invited to the prom by varsity athlete Tommy Ross, she thinks her dream has come true. But this evening to remember becomes a living nightmare when betrayal and humiliation sparks Carrie’s fury into a telekinetic storm that destroys everything in its path. Based on Stephen King’s novel and one of America’s most banned books, Carrie: the Musical explores bullying, feminism, and the problems that arise when confusing pity for empathy.

Senior Intensive provides students with demanding material that seeks to challenge them as artists, educate them in a professional setting, and inspire them to be active voices in their community.

Tackle Shakespearean plays through an LGBTQ lens—celebrate and portray characters that defy heteronormativity and rigid portrayals of gender. Learn how to analyze and deliver Shakespeare’s text while you explore the impact and influence of Shakespeare’s queer characters.

Performance Opportunity – Senior Showcase: Cyrano (Grades 7 – 12)

In this classic play with contemporary themes, Cyrano is a hero that can do it all—he’s an excellent leader, duelist, wordsmith, musician. Unfortunately, he also believes his giant nose is an insurmountable obstacle in his pursuit of love, and so helps his beloved Roxane fall deeper in love with Christian through his artfully-written love letters. Will Cyrano ever tell Roxane the truth? Or will he be bound to love in secret forever? This showcase will include stage combat training for the ensemble.

Theatre Arts Training’s performance opportunities are specifically designed for students who have a demonstrated commitment to their craft as performers and display a positive attitude in their work. Students work with like-minded peers and industry professionals to produce a play. The Senior Showcase performs on our Cohen Stage.
