Dance Sampler:
This class introduces students to
the basic elements and terminology of ballet, tap and
musical theatre dance. Students work to connect with
their minds, bodies and imaginations in the creation of
theatre.
Wednesdays 4/14 – 5/19 5pm-6:30pm
$120
Stage Combat:
In this two day workshop, students begin
with basic moves and principles for creating safe,
effective violence on stage. Upon grasping the basics,
they learn to act the fight by creating and refining an
extended piece of choreography. We will take time to
cover Broadsword, Quarterstaff and some unarmed
techniques and will explore everything from how we
tell a clear, dramatic story on stage to how we define
a character through movement choices. Violence often
occurs at the climax of a play; we’ll learn to make
those moments shine.
Sat & Sun Apr 17-18 12pm-5pm
$130
The Lab (by audition only) - Grades 7-12:
This acting company initially will explore imaginative
and fundamental approaches to scene study while
establishing a foundation and common language as
an ensemble. Through relaxation and trust exercises,
sensory work, text analysis and the exploration of
techniques for making active choices in the moment,
each actor will work to discover the techniques that
best support their work. Potential projects include a
marathon play creation and performance event (such
as 24 plays in 24 hours by 24 actors or car plays which
take place in our parking garage) as well as master
classes with industry professionals.
Meets bi-monthly (3 1/2 hour sessions)
Thursdays beginning 4/22 4pm-7:30pm
Dues: $50/month
Minimum commitment: 3 months
Auditioning at CTC:
You just signed up to audition for
a main stage show at Children’s Theatre Company…
now what? Auditioning can be an intimidating and
confusing process, especially if you’ve never done
it before. This four day course is focused on making
auditioning fun while guiding students through the
audition process step-by-step: from signing up to getting
cast in a show, and everything in between! Using
a “mock” audition at the end of course as a goal, students
will get a chance to develop audition skills and
learn how to leave a lasting impression from the moment
they walk in the audition room.
On the last day, there will be a parent Q&A session on
how to help your child prepare for auditions.
Weeklong intensive.
M-Th Apr 26-29 4:30pm–6:30pm
$115
Who Am I This Time? (Physical and Vocal Characterization):
Have you ever felt “stuck” with a character?
Or read through a play you’ve just been cast
in and thought “now what?” This 2 day intensive will
provide students with an array of tools for character
development. Our character explorations will include
physical and vocal approaches, text analysis, character
worksheets and guided imagery, all designed to
expand your character-building toolbox. Students will
be pre-assigned a play/character and must have read
the play before starting the intensive.
Prerequisite: Acting fundamentals course experience
or equivalent.
