MEDIA ALERT - PHOTO OPPORTUNITY - St. Paul SNAP Finale - SNAP St. Paul on Stage in CTC’s Summer Neighborhood Arts Program Final Sharing
For Immediate Release: August 14, 2001
WHO:
The Children’s Theatre Company, the nation’s leading theater for young people and families
WHAT:
Twenty-five Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood students, ages 9-12, who were selected to take part in The Children’s Theatre Company’s Summer Neighborhood Arts Program (SNAP), will be performing an original show with music. During their three week long workshop, students experimented with many different expressive art forms including drawing, journaling, creative movement, music, singing, dance, creative drama and theater. The St. Paul students also teamed up with Minneapolis SNAPers for a workshop on Kabuki, a form of Japanese theatre. The final sharing, which is created by the whole group, will be a combination of the many art forms they have studied. This year’s program was led by Project Director and Acting Instructor David Barrow Wiley, Movement Instructor Luctricia Welters, and Music Instructor Sylvestor "Sly" Tomblin.
Started in Minneapolis in the summer of 1994, SNAP is a free, three-four week program that provides voice, movement and acting classes to neighborhood children. For the first time, students in St. Paul have had the opportunity to participate in the program. Classes meet from 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday. Transportation is available to and from CTC, and breakfast and lunch are provided to the students at no charge.
We are pleased that Lieutenant Governor Mae Schunk will be attending this final sharing.
