MEDIA ADVISORY - What are lots of kids, costumed characters and a colorful 48’ truck doing on Third Avenue? Launching CTC’s 'SWEET 16 TOUR OF MINNESOTA AND BEYOND'
For Immediate Release: September 19, 2001
The rehearsals are over. The cast and crew are packed. The trucks are being loaded with set pieces, lighting and sound equipment, costumes and props - everything that is needed to bring the nation’s leading children’s theatre company to auditoriums and opera houses across the Midwest in an old-fashioned barnstorming tour. All that’s left is to bid the troupe farewell.
WHAT:
The Children’s Theatre Company will launch its 'Sweet 16 Tour of Minnesota and Beyond' with a celebration Saturday (Sept. 22). Several hundred families are expected to attend. Children will have their faces painted with the state of Minnesota and everyone will wave Minnesota-shaped fans to launch the equipment truck on a five-month, nine-state tour.
The truck will be emblazoned with 8’ by 46’ colorful graphics. Costumed characters from this year’s touring show, Grimm Tales, will help lead the children in bidding farewell to the truck. This production of Grimm Tales is a new look at these famous tales, and recently received rave reviews in London and New York.
The Children’s Theatre Company has been touring the Midwest for fifteen consecutive years, bringing world-class theatre to some communities for the first time. Over 800,000 young people and families have seen CTC touring productions since 1986.
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 22, 10-10:30 a.m.
WHERE:
The Children’s Theatre Company, 2400 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis
DETAILS:
This will be the 16th consecutive year that CTC is bringing the nation’s leading children’s theatre company to more than 20 Minnesota communities, and eight other Midwestern states. The tour opens in Glenwood, MN, Sept. 23, and closes in Iowa City, Iowa, Feb. 2. In between, the company will present nearly 100 performances of this regional premiere of Grimm Tales.
NOTE:
Interviews with crew and cast members - some of whom have participated in all 16 tours - photos of loading the trucks and other stories/photos can be arranged.
