CTC Turns Focus Toward Teens: 'Dear Eurydice, I love you. I'm going to find you. I play the saddest music now that you're gone. You know I don't like writing letters. I'll give this letter to a worm. I hope he finds you. Love, Orpheus'

For Immediate Release: September 26, 2001

The Children's Theatre Company understands the need for theatre directed specifically for a teenage audience. This weekend, CTC fulfills this need with a show produced especially for this group. Eurydice, one of the great love stories of all time, will be presented at Jimmy Jingle. A play by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Darron West and Rebecca Brown this production will be performed by CTC's performing apprentices.

"Today, theater has to compete with so many other interests in teens' lives. But, we feel there are great stories to be told and in ways that only theater can tell them. Teens are a smart, savvy audience. Our artists are thrilled to be creating work that will engage young people of high school age and beyond," stated Elissa Adams, Director of New Play Development for CTC.

Eurydice is a sassy, sensual reinterpretation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. Eurydice's boyfriend is the most amazing musician in the world. They're going to get married, if Orpheus can stop thinking about music. After an encounter with an Interesting Man, Eurydice finds herself in Hell. Orpheus loves her so much he will bust open the gates of the underworld to get her back. But, she's not so sure she wants to go...
