MEDIA ALERT - CTC Hosts Benefit Performance for Kevin Kling

For Immediate Release: October 2, 2001

WHO:
The Children’s Theatre Company, the nation’s leading theater for young people and families.

WHAT:
All proceeds from the October 4th performance of Dragonwings will be given to the Kevin Kling Fund which was established in August to assist Minneapolis playwright Kling during the recovery and rehabilitation following a serious motorcycle accident.

Kevin Kling has been a member of the Playwrights’ Center in Minneapolis since 1983. He has performed many of his one-person plays in theaters across America including Seattle Rep, Second Stage Theater (Off-Broadway), Denver Center Theater, the Jungle, and Frank Theater. Kling has written adaptations of Lyle the Crocodile, and Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, and was a co-creator of last season’s Mississippi Panorama. He also adapted The Venetian Twins, along with Michael Bogdonov, for the Guthrie Theater. His commentaries can be heard on "All Things Considered" for National Public Radio.

Based on the Newberry Award winning novel by Laurence Yep, Dragonwings is a glorious story about the bond between father and son, and the beauty of a world filled with dragons and dreams. Set in San Francisco in the early 1900’s, it is also the story of the cruelty, intolerance, and unexpected kindness that inevitably await immigrants coming to America.
