A Whirlwind Weekend at CTC - The Grinch takes the stage, Lea Thompson is in the house, the Ball’s blasting off, and a record-breaking PWYC

For Immediate Release: November 15, 2001

WHO:
The Children’s Theatre Company, the nation’s largest theater for young people and families.

WHAT:
A very exciting weekend approaches as CTC opens Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas tomorrow and hosts their Annual Curtain Call Ball on Saturday. Special guest Lea Thompson will be attending both events. Ms. Thompson, who starred in CTC’s 1979 production of The Little Mermaid, will be honored at the ball for her continuing commitment to the performing arts and a scholarship fund for the Theatre Arts Training program will be established in her honor.

The Annual Curtain Call Ball is CTC’s largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds from the ball provide critical funding for the education and community programs at The Children's Theatre Company. This year, in addition to dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, there will be a performance featuring Jeveeta and J.D. Steele and dancing to the Music of Popluxe.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas first debuted on the CTC stage in November of 1994. The original production was an enormous success and was remounted in again in 1995 and 1998 playing to sold-out houses every time; 2001 is no exception. Tickets went on sale at 9:00 am on Tuesday for the PAY WHAT YOU CAN performance and sold out in 1 hour 3 minutes, breaking last year’s record of 1 hour and 9 minutes.
