MEDIA ALERT / PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Neighborhood Bridges Finale 2002 - 1 Stage, 6 Schools, 14 Stories, 350 Imaginations Set Free

For Immediate Release: May 6, 2002

WHO:
The Children’s Theatre Company, the nation’s leading theater for young people and families.

WHAT:
Nearly 350 students from six Minneapolis schools (Whittier Community School for the Arts, Lucy Craft Laney Community School, Marcy Open School and Tuttle Community School, Powderhorn Community School and Pratt Community School) will share original 10-minute stories they have created through CTC’s Neighborhood Bridges program with family and friends on May 13, 14, and 20. Receptions celebrating the students’ accomplishments will follow the presentations.

For the entire school year, CTC’s actor/educators have been in six inner city elementary schools teaching critical literacy through creative storytelling. For two hours each week the students have been helped to find their own voices and create their own stories by re-interpreting classic fairy tales. The results, which are often funny, endearing, hopeful, honest, and insightful, will be shared with other students and families in the form of performances as outlined below.
