CTC's Around Series for Korczak's Children: A chance for young people to revel in the world around them
For Immediate Release: January 10, 2003
Minneapolis, MN - The Children's Theatre Company has fully launched its Around Series, with great success and much fanfare. The series provides events and activities for CTC's audience and the general public that correlate to the current production that is playing on the mainstage. The goal is to not only enhance the audiences' playgoing experience, but also heighten young people's awareness of the world they live in through related activities.
"We are committed to making CTC a nexus for young people and their families to see, touch, taste and feel the extraordinary world around them," said Peter C. Brosius, CTC artistic director. "So far this season we have helped young people to become pen pals with families in New York (around the world premiere of A Year with Frog and Toad which then traveled to New York City). They have learned some of the language and stories of South America and explored great works of art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art during the run of our world premiere, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings. The participation has been fabulous and the young people have left with a broader understanding of themselves and the world they live in. We are thrilled."
This year the Around Series has at least a half dozen events and/or activities associated with every mainstage production. Whenever possible, the events are free, open to the public as well as ticket holders, and take place in CTC's red lobby.
Around Series events have now been finalized for Korczak's Children. Highlights include: The Art of a Holocaust Survivor (March 23rd at 8:00pm, free). Dr. Robert O. Fisch will share stories and slides of his art to the accompaniment of a live orchestra. The CTC Jewish Family Film Festival (April 5th at 7:00pm, $4-6). CTC will present six films (each under an hour long) which celebrate Jewish life with humor, music and Yiddish. And last but not least, A Celebration of Food and Music (April 6th at TBA, $6). Drei Groschen Klezmorim Band and the Crossroads Deli will fill us with traditional Jewish food and music.
The schedule for Around Series events for Korczak's Children follows in chronological order.
