News Releases
'Throughout history, civilizations and cultures have failed because they have failed their children. Korczak's Children challenges us to always work for a future full of hope for all children.' -Father O'Connell, Church of Ascension Pastor, Basilica of St. Mary Rector
For Immediate Release: April 4, 2003
WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company, the nation's leading theater for young people and families.
WHAT:
Local clergy and CTC have joined together to host an Interfaith Forum following a performance of Korczak's Children on Sunday, April 6. Congregants and students of many religious beliefs will come together to share this play about a true hero (relatively unknown in this country), Januscz Korczak, who ran an orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Nazi occupation of Poland. The play is a testament to his unwavering commitment to his children, his courage and his belief that art makes life bearable in unbearable times. It is also an opportunity to look at the consequences of intolerance and aggression, both historically and currently, especially as they relate to children. The post-show discussion will address how faith can help to create some measure of security and calm for our children in these difficult times.
Lead participants of the Interfaith Forum include Father Michael O'Connell (Church of Ascension, Basilica of St. Mary's), Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman (Temple Israel), Pastor Susan Peterson (Gloria Dei Lutheran Church), Clergywoman Anita Cummings (House of Hope Presbyterian).
Other events that relate to the themes of this production have also been scheduled as part of CTC's Around Series. These events and activities, which are usually free and always open to the public, are designed to explore, embrace and celebrate the world in which we live. The Around Series for Kprcczak's Children include CTC's First Family Film Festival in partnership with The Minneapolis Festival of Jewish Films, and Dr. Robert O. Fisch, a professor and holocaust survivor will share his stories set to music as well as the art he created to help himself heal.
