The City Council resolves to Honk! for The Children's Theatre Company Today - Duckling and CTC Board Chair attend presentation

WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company (CTC), the nation's leading theater for young people and families, and recipient of the 2003 Tony® Award for Best Regional Theater. Representing CTC are Board Chair, Kenneth E. Piper and CTC student actor, Maeve Moynihan, in costume as Downy the duckling from Honk! The Ugly Duckling Musical.

WHAT:
Friday, August 22 is a day to Honk! for CTC, according to an official resolution City Council Member, Gary Schiff (Ward 9) will introduce.

The resolution recognizes the launch of CTC's 2003/04 season with "Honk! The Ugly Duckling Musical." The resolution also recognizes the other contributions CTC makes to the city of Minneapolis. Among the accomplishments:

CTC consistently produces groundbreaking theatrical works from Dr. Seuss' "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" (1980) to "Snapshot Silhouette" (2004), that educate and inspire young people
CTC's innovative education and community partnerships, including Neighborhood Bridges, teach young people critical literacy, creativity, teamwork and self-confidence
In June 2003, CTC was the first theater for young people to receive the Regional Theatre Tony® Award, recognizing sustained artistic excellence and contributions to the professional theater field nationally
In autumn 2003, CTC will officially embark on the construction phase of an expansion plan that will help expand its contributions to the community by adding dedicated classroom space, dedicated rehearsal space and a second stage for teens

Since 1965, CTC has served over 6 million young people and families and employed thousands of talented actors, administrators, musicians, designers, crafts people, stage managers and playwrights. This resolution honors and thanks The Children's Theatre Company for their extraordinary commitment to the young people and families of Minneapolis and suggests that all citizens Honk! for CTC today.
