The Children's Theatre Company 2003 Annual Fundraiser Yields Unprecedented Results

CTC event grosses over $350,000 -- Mark Linn-Baker, Jay Goede and Frank Vlastnick reunite for songs from A Year with Frog and Toad

For Immediate Release: December 23, 2003

The 14th Annual Children's Theatre Company's Curtain Call Ball raised unprecedented funds - over $350,000 - on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at the Best Buy Corporate Campus in Richfield. Called A Tony Affair, the evening celebrated CTC's history making 2003 Regional Theatre Tony® Award. The prestigious honor was awarded in 2003 for sustained excellence in theater and contributions to the field nationally. CTC is the first children's theater to receive this award.

550 guests attended the 2003 Curtain Call Ball and their support yielded $114,900 from the live auction and $49,550 from the silent auction, totaling $164,450. By comparison, 525 guests attended the 2002 Curtain Call Ball with their support reflected in $77,050 from the live auction and $22,850 from the silent auction, totaling $99,145. The proceeds of the live and silent auctions from CTC's 2003 Curtain Call Ball, A Tony Affair, were 60% higher than 2002.

"What a fantastic event," said Teresa Eyring, CTC managing director. "The efforts of our event chairs, Nancy Tellor and Anne Rosenberg, were evident throughout the evening. The Best Buy facility looked gorgeous, the food from D'Amico & Sons was superb and the winning combination of auctioneer Jeff Stokes and Twin Cities WCCO-TV 4 News anchor Don Shelby helped both the silent and live auctions out-perform our expectations. Even the snow fell, almost as if on cue, outside our dining room windows."

The evening also paid tribute to CTC's remarkable production, A Year with Frog and Toad. Original cast members Jay Goede (Frog), Mark Linn-Baker (Toad) and Frank Vlastnik (Snail) reunited to serenade CTC guests with the Tony-nominated Frog and Toad songs. CTC produced the world premiere of A Year with Frog and Toad in August of 2002. It subsequently played at the New Victory Theater in New York City and on Broadway at the Cort Theater where it garnered three Tony® award nominations. In addition to receiving the 2003 Tony® Award for outstanding theater, CTC was named "the nation's leading theater for young audiences" by The New York Times.

The goal of the Curtain Call Ball is to support CTC's education and community partnership programs. These programs benefit over 85,000 students and teachers annually with exceptional theater arts education. CTC's Neighborhood Bridges program is currently in 18 inner city schools and provides weekly, year-long classes that teach literacy through creative storytelling.
