Veteran Fundraising Professional is CTC's New Director of Advancement
For Immediate Release: January 27, 2004
The Children's Theatre Company has hired Richard L. Meyer as its new Director of Advancement. Meyer is a seasoned fund-raising professional with over 13 years of experience here in the Twin Cities. According to CTC managing director, Teresa Eyring, Meyer was the obvious choice to replace previous CTC Director of Advancement, Patrick Dewane, who has joined the staff of The Minnesota Opera Company.
"We are so pleased to have Rich join the CTC staff," said Eyring. His knowledge of our community, his particular expertise in the areas of endowment and planned giving and his experience with our sister organization, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts make him a valuable team leader for our development department and an ideal captain for this particular phase of CTC's capital campaign."
Most recently, Rich Meyer was Vice President for Organizational Advancement of the Masonic Homes of Minnesota where he was responsible for their development, marketing and mission expansion efforts. Prior to the Masonic Homes, Rich was the Associate Director of Development and the Director of Endowments and Planned Giving for The Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The MIA shares a campus with The Children's Theatre Company along with many common donors and key volunteers.
"It's my privilege to join CTC at such a pivotal point in the Theatre's history. There is enormous support in this community for its Theatre Arts Training, innovation in arts education and community programs, and the quality of its main stage productions. That support, along with the commitment of its outstanding board of governors, will ensure The Children's Theatre Company's relevance in the years to come."
Meyer's job duties will encompass oversight of all areas of fundraising for CTC, including capital campaign, annual fund, planned giving and sponsorships. He will also be a key player in strategic planning efforts for the transition to an expanded theatre and beyond.
To date, CTC's capital campaign has raised $22 million including $5 million in state bonding support from the Minnesota Legislature. Site preparation for CTC's expansion is currently underway and ground will be broken in the next 30-60 days. The CTC expansion, designed by world-renowned American architect Michael Graves, will add an education wing, dedicated rehearsal space and a second, smaller stage that will be programmed primarily for teens. CTC will remain open during the 15-18 month construction process and the grand re-opening is anticipated for fall 2005.
