"It's stomp-ISH, and skate-ISH, it's a little hi-hop-ISH, it's beatbox-ISH. It's an event, a spectacle." -Edmonton Sun

For Immediate Release: August 10, 2005

4-ISH WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company (CTC), the nation's leading theater for young people and families and recipient of the 2003 Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater.

WHAT:
Second in CTC's 2005/2006 main stage line-up (and running in repertory with Sleeping Beauty) is the regional premiere of 4-ISH, created and directed by Marco Gerris. The production has lighting design by Mike den Oholander and sound design and technical direction by Jan Willem Crul. Additional guest artistic staff are lighting technician Ruud Leenhoven and company manager Harm Bredero. It is stage managed by Chris Schweiger. 4-ISH will be performed by eleven ISH company members.

CTC's ten-play season is proudly sponsored by Target.

Entering the world of 4-ISH is like entering a 3-D dream. In this ensemble theater piece, DJs overlook a stage inhabited by a gigantic half pipe; banners conceal, reveal and project shadow shows. There are video screens and an amazing array of young, multi ethnic artists that are street performers, clowns, karate masters, graffiti artists, dancers of ballet and hip-hop, acrobatics, tap and skate dance. And there are wheels. Everywhere. 4-ISH will run in repertory with Sleeping Beauty.

4-ISH is performed by ISH, a multi-disciplinary company based in Amsterdam that merges extreme sports and physical risk with an intense theatrical sensibility. In 1999, ISH founder, Marco Gerris (then twenty-three years old), drew inspiration for his new style of theater from the disciplines of the street, the club circuit, pop concerts, video games and cartoons. The company consists of Europe's best artists in these various disciplines. ISH got its name because it was impossible to give the company a precise definition.

ISH combines it professional life with community activism by conducting workshops that encourage teens to channel their energy and talents into this new theater form. The free workshops that the ISH Institute will facilitate for teens at CTC from August 26 through September 3, will culminate in a free, public performance on CTC's main stage on Saturday, September 3 at 8:00pm.

WHEN:
4-ISH previews August 31 and September 1, opens September 2, 2005 and runs through October 8, 2005.
