WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company (CTC), the nation's leading theater for young people and families and recipient of the 2003 Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater.
WHAT:
Closing the Cargill Stage season is the world premiere of Anon(ymous): an adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey by Naomi Iizuka. Created in Threshold (CTC's new play lab), the production is directed by Peter C. Brosius with scenic design by Kate Edmunds, costume design by Christal Weatherly, lighting design by Geoff Korf, music and sound design by Andre Pluess and Ben Sussmann, dramaturgy by Elissa Adams, video design by Rebecca Fuller, fight choreography by Edward (Ted) Sharon and stage managed by Jenny R. Friend. The 2005-06 season is proudly sponsored by Target.
"Naomi Iizuka is a fearless artist of extraordinary ability," said CTC artistic director Peter C. Brosius. "She creates theater that lingers in the brain and haunts you with its clarity, its punch and its powerful imagery. It has been our pleasure to support Naomi in bringing Anon(ymous) to life."
The traveler in this contemporary tale is a refugee from Southeast Asia named Anon. As he searches for his mother across America, he travels through a landscape that is both mythic and familiar. His is a wild ride that cascades into a world of tempest-tossing surf boards, epic sword fights, beach front condos and exploding bomb shells. There are great escapes and mistaken identities. It is both the story of countless refugees and the story of one human being.
The eleven member company includes some of the Twin Cities' finest actors: Annie Enneking, Steve Hendrickson, Terry Hempleman, Emil Herrera, Marvette Knight, Gavin Lawrence, Becka M. Ollmann, Hadija Steen-Omari, Sonja Parks, and from New York City, Rosanne Ma as Nemasani and Michael Escamilla as Anon.
