News Releases
"This is a place of learning, not a football court. Save your bilabial fricatives for someone of your own primitive esthetic." -Mrs. Darbus, Disney's High School Musical
For Immediate Release: December 8, 2006
WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company (CTC), the nation's leading theater for young people and families and recipient of the 2003 Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater.
WHAT:
CTC stages Disney's High School Musical, based on a Disney Channel Original Movie.
The original television movie Disney's High School Musical has a book by David Simpatico; songs by Matthew Gerrard, Robbie Nevil, Ray Cham, Greg Cham, Andrew Seeley, Randy Petersen, Kevin Quinn, Andy Dodd, Adam Watts, Bryan Louiselle, David N. Lawrence, Faye Greenberg and Jamie Houston; music adapted, arranged and produced by Bryan Louiselle; and is based on a Disney Channel Original Movie written by Peter Barsocchini.
CTC's creative team includes director Peter Rothstein, costume designs by Rich Hamson, lighting design by Geoff Korf, music direction by John Lynn, sound design by Andrew Mayer, and stage management by Danae Schniepp.
"We are so fortunate to able to add this programming to our 2006-2007 season," said CTC artistic director Peter C. Brosius. "It is just one of the terrific benefits of having a second stage at CTC – The Cargill Stage. Some of the Twin Cities' creative team and the majority of student actors (26) are new to CTC. Having Beth Gilleland and Steve Sweer play the anchor adult roles rounds out the high energy ensemble. It's quite glorious to march into the New Year by adding new student actors and new audience members to our CTC family."
Disney's High School Musical revolves around Troy Bolton, the popular captain of the basketball team and Gabriella Montez, the brainy and beautiful member of the academic club. They break all the rules of the East High society when they secretly audition for the leads in the school's musical. As they reach for the stars and follow their dreams, everyone learns about acceptance, teamwork and being true to one's self. Two new songs have been added to those that have already captured the attention of millions.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have back-to-back blockbusters on each of our stages right now," said CTC managing director Teresa Eyring. "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas continues to prove that it is a classic for many generations of families. Often it is a holiday tradition. Having our second stage - the Cargill Stage – allowed us to have a rapid response to an incredible opportunity with Disney's High School Musical. Most important in all of this is, of course, that CTC continues its reach into the community and will welcome many new audience members."
