"Now, I'm here, there is no telling what may ensue. With a Cat such as me, and a Thinker like you!" -The Cat in the Hat

For Immediate Release: April 13, 2007

Seussical WHO:
The Children's Theatre Company (CTC), the nation's leading theater for young people and families and recipient of the 2003 Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater.

WHAT:
The Children's Theatre Company launches the new musical version of Seussical based upon the works of Dr. Seuss with book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, and co-conceived with Eric Idle. The production is directed and choreographed by Matthew Howe (Disney's Aladdin, Jr. and Pippi Longstocking at CTC) with musical direction by Andrew Cooke, set and costumes by Helen Q. Huang, and lighting design by Nancy Schertler.

Seussical tells the story of JoJo, a young boy, who, after finding an iconic red-and-white-striped hat, (which could only belong to one, particularly mischievous cat) is transported by his Thinks (a Seussian word for imagination) to the Jungle of Nool. On his adventure, JoJo meets Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie, and Yertle the Turtle along with many other memorable Seuss characters. Together the characters explore different Seuss kingdoms, encounter Seussian adventures (like taking care of a teeny-tiny Who planet) while learning some valuable Seuss lessons along the way.

Director and choreographer, Matthew Howe, is excited about this refocused and reworked version of the original Broadway production. "Putting Horton at the center of this musical tribute to Dr. Seuss was a terrific choice. Horton acts as our personal invitation to enter the world of Seuss. Common Seussian themes of acceptance and the power of imagination are even more present in this version."

The 17 member company includes CTC Performing Apprentice, Sid Solomon as Cat in the Hat along with newcomer to the CTC stage, Jake Ingbar as JoJo. CTC company members Reed Sigmund and Autumn Ness fill the rolls of Horton and Mayzie and Jessie Shelton (Tale of a West Texas Marsupial Girl) returns to the CTC stage as Gertrude McFuzz.

Seussical takes audiences on a rollicking musical trip through a world of Seussibilities limited only by the Thinks you can Think!

WHEN:
Seussical opens April 27, 2007 and runs through June 17, 2007. Preview performances are Tuesday, April 24, Wednesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 26.

CTC will host the PAY WHAT YOU CAN performance of Seussical on Wednesday, May 2 at 7:00PM. Tickets go on-sale Wednesday, April 28, one week prior to the performance.
