The Children's Theatre Company Names Kathy Schaaf as Director of Advancement

For Immediate Release: August 29, 2007

Minneapolis, MN - The Children's Theatre Company (CTC) announces that Kathleen A. Schaaf has been selected as its Director of Advancement.

Most recently, Schaaf served as Vice President of Development and Marketing for MacPhail Center for Music. Her credits at MacPhail are impressive. Under her watch, $25,011,000 was raised for the Capital Campaign after re-structuring the development department, the Annual Fund more than doubled, going from $400,000 to $900,000; the student base increased 63%; and two new access sites were successfully marketed.

"We couldn't be more pleased," said Karen Bohn, CTC's interim managing director. "Kathy comes to us with a fantastic track record of successfully leading institutions through enormous periods of growth. With the addition of the Cargill Stage and McGuire Education Center (both opened in Fall 2005), CTC is now in a period of tremendous growth and will benefit from her experience."

As a part of MacPhail's four-person senior management team, she provided strategic leadership and direction, ensuring the long-term financial stability of the $7M organization as well as adherence to its strategic goals and objectives. Over the past four years during an immense period of growth and change at MacPhail, Schaaf built structure and systems, created long-range department plans, guided program vision, doubled the Annual Fund, surpassed the Capital Campaign goal, and worked to re-brand the organization.

"Kathy will bring tremendous energy, spirit and skills to this theater," said Peter C. Brosius, CTC's artistic director. "We are on the threshold of creating a path that will determine our goals and accomplishments for the next ten years. Kathy is the ideal person to help create the organizational model that will help us succeed as we grow."

Prior to joining MacPhail, Schaaf served as Executive Director of the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, from January 1997 - July 2001. During her four years there, the organization was undergoing tremendous organizational growth, and she provided structure to double financial resources, programs, client services and staff while realizing a balanced budget each year. Prior to that, she served as Vice President of Marketing and Development at the Minnesota Children's Museum from 1992-1996 during their $16M building campaign; and Director of Development at the Science Museum of Minnesota from 1984-1993. Schaaf has served on the board of the University of Minnesota Women's Health Fund, Minnesota State Crisis Nursery Association, and Minnesota Resource Center.
