"If you got to tell a lie, make sure it's simple and easy to remember."

The Children's Theatre Company Presents Bud, Not Buddy - The Play, Based on the Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award-Winning Book Runs Tuesday, January 15 through Saturday, February 16, 2008

For Immediate Release: December 28, 2007

Bud, Not Buddy "If you got to tell a lie, make sure it's simple and easy to remember." That's "Rules and Things #3" according to Bud (not Buddy) in The Children's Theatre Company (CTC) latest production.

Based on the award-winning book by Christopher Paul Curtis, Bud, Not Buddy takes you to the Great Depression of the 1930's and introduces you to Bud, a 10-year old boy who is pretty much on his own. After being placed in yet another foster home, Bud decides it time to use some of the treasures his momma left him and find his father. He travels 130 miles across Michigan and on the way, discovers the true meaning of family.

Bud, Not Buddy is the story of a brave young boy determined to find himself and discovers that even the most challenging circumstances can have healthy and rewarding outcomes. With complex themes that parents will want to discuss with children, the play is an introduction to several historical lessons: segregation, the Great Depression and jazz music.

Produced for children age 9+, Bud, Not Buddy stars Nathan Barlow, a 16-year old student actor from St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists and winner of 2005's nationwide competition Bravo - On With the Show. The play is directed by St. Paul-ite and Tony Award-nominated Marion McClinton, who is making his CTC directorial debut.

Bud, Not Buddy runs from Tuesday, January 15 through Sunday, February 16. Tickets start at $22.50 and can be purchased through the CTC Ticket Office at (612) 874-0400 or visit Bud, Not Buddy's online ticketing page at www.childrenstheatre.org/ticketoffice and click on Single Tickets or School and Group Sales. The Children's Theatre Company is located at 2400 Third Ave. S.
